This free open evening, 6.30pm – 8.30pm, is for those who want to know more about counselling and psychotherapy and possible training options with WPF Therapy.

  • Are you interested in finding out about the counselling and psychotherapy training available at WPF Therapy?
  • Have you been thinking about, or are looking for, a reputable foundation level course that will fit in with your life, challenge you and move your ambitions forward?
  • Are you looking for an introductory level course that can lead to a BACP, BPC and UKCP recognised qualification?
  • Have you completed a foundation level course and are now looking for an accredited training (BACP) that will equip you with a professional qualification as a psychodynamic psychotherapist (BPC and UKCP)?

Then start, and maybe end, your search with us.

With almost 50 years of experience in providing reputable counselling and psychotherapy training WPF Therapy is ideally placed to help you make a choice. This two hour introductory seminar will provide you with answers to some of the questions you will be asking yourself – such as what does psychodynamic mean?, what do our courses involve?, when do courses take place and what can they lead to?

Find out more about our foundation level certificate courses, the essential first step when embarking on a training to become a therapist or a valuable aid to self development and enhanced work performance;  If you would like answers to some of your questions and want to find out what happens on our courses – such as how they are run and structured, when they take place and what they can lead to; and our Postgraduate Diploma / MA in Psychodynamic Theory and Practice (BACP registered and accredited, BPC and UKCP registration) which leads to qualification as a psychodynamic psychotherapist.

If you would like to speak to one of our current trainees, or one of our graduates to find out more about the practicalities and the student experience of training with us, please indicate this when you book a  place.

This is an ideal time to discover, in an informal and interactive way, more about the October and January intakes of the Foundation Certificate in Counselling Skills course, the January intake for the Diploma in Counselling Skills, or to clarify what preparations are needed for a qualifying professional psychotherapy training.

Please contact us to book a place.  All are welcome to attend.

Feedback from past visitors

  • “I found it really useful just to have the basic information about the ladder of training as I’ve found it very difficult previously to understand exactly what I’d need to do”
  • “The discussions about skills and qualities of a counsellor”
  • “Explaining the process of psychodynamic theory”
  • “Excellent overview of what will be covered”
  • “All useful but particularly liked the interactive style and the smaller groups”
  • Useful to understand the difference between psychodynamic and psychoanalytic, and the difference between counselling and psychotherapy”
  • “Useful to hear the answers to other people’s questions as some asked things I’d not thought about”

Are you thinking of training but have lots of questions? Do the questions below sound relevant to you?

Why do this workshop?

  1. Do I want to be a counsellor not a psychotherapist? Do  I want to be a psychotherapist?  What is counselling and what is psychotherapy?  Are psychotherapists like psychiatrist?   What is the difference between a psychotherapist and a psychologist?
  1. What does psychodynamic mean? Isn’t that Freud?  How do I know what model of therapy is right for me?  If I do the introductory course at WPF Therapy can I go on to train somewhere else?
  1. What does training as a therapist involve? Why does it take so long to train?  Why do I have to be in therapy?
  1. I’m a good listener already. Why should I do an introductory course?
  1. What does it take to be a good therapist? How do I know if it’s right for me?  What qualities do I need to have?
  1. Why is the introductory course at WPF Therapy so long? Why does it cost so much money?
  1. Why should I come to WPF Therapy rather than go somewhere else? How do I know what is a good training?  What can I do at the end of the training?  How much money will I make?  What are the professional bodies?  Is it important?

What can you expect at the end of this workshop?

By the end of the workshop we hope that you will have answers to many of the above questions, or if not, a clear direction.  You will also:

  1.  Have a clearer understanding of what a psychotherapy training involves and specifically what is required of you on the introductory course at WPF Therapy.
  1. Have a basic understanding of the psychodynamic perspective and how this fits in with other theoretical models such as humanistic, CBT and integrative therapy etc.
  1. Have begun to explore how you relate to others and to yourself and why therapy training requires deep, personal work.
  1. Have a greater appreciation of the skills involved in active listening and how these are developed on the introductory course at WPF Therapy.

Brief Outline

The course will be taught using a variety of techniques including discussion in small and large groups and paired exercises.  The day will be broken down into 4 segments although there may be some changes depending on the group.

Session 1. The Mystery of Psychotherapy
We will look at the differences between psychology, psychiatry, psychotherapy and counselling. What are the different models of counselling and psychotherapy and where does psychodynamic psychotherapy sit on that spectrum? We will also explore what we need to think about if we want to train.

Session 2 Psychodynamic Concepts- Is this perspective for you?
A basic introduction to psychodynamic concepts. Is the psychodynamic the model for us, or are other options better suited to our personalities?

 Session 3- Our emotional world
We will begin to explore ideas of emotional intelligence and our reflective capacity. What qualities does a counsellor or therapist need and is this really what I want to do?

Session 4- Communication and therapy today
Where does therapy and counselling belong in today’s world? What jobs are there at the end of the training? What will I learn at WPF Therapy and is it the right place for me to begin this journey?

Target Audience: This course will be of interest if you want to learn more about counselling, therapy or psychotherapy training and/or you wish to develop counselling skills in your current work.  No previous knowledge is required.

Comments from previous workshop:

  • “Thought provoking and fascinating.”
  • “Really helps as part of the decision making process.”
  • “Very clear and encouraging.”

Applications must be received by Thursday, 26th February 2019. Booking will be final after receipt of payment.
